Judith Glyde, cello - Professor, University of Colorado, Boulder; former, Manhattan String Quartet
Judith Glyde, cellist and Chair of the String faculty at University of Boulder, Colorado, studied with Bernard Greenhouse, formerly of the Beaux Arts Trio. She received degrees from Hartt College of Music and the Manhattan School of Music. A founding member of the Manhattan String Quartet in 1970, she left the Quartet at the end of the 1991-92 season to be Professor of Cello and Director of the String Quartet Program at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She now performs as a soloist and guest artist with orchestras and festivals throughout the country and in Australia. Professor Glyde is Director of the Winterschool of the Australian Chamber Music Festival and is also Principal Cellist of the Boulder Bach Festival. She has recorded for numerous labels, including Newport Classics, Musical Heritage Society, CRI, Educo, and Centaur. The recordings on ESS.A.Y., a set of six compact discs featuring the 15 string quartets of Dmitri Shostakovich, received the highest praise, including Time magazine's "Best of '91."
