Byron Wallis, violin - former, Cascade String Quartet
Byron Wallis, violinist, now resides and performs in Paris, France. Byron Wallis has served as co-concertmaster of the Great Falls Symphony and violinist with the Cascade String Quartet. He holds a doctorate from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Previous degrees are from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and the Eastman School of Music, where he was teaching assistant to Sylvia Rosenberg. His teachers have included Vartan Manoogian, Lorand Fenyves, Zvi Zeitlin, Margaret Batjer, Heiichiro Ohyama and Gilles Apap. A fellowship member of graduate quartets in residence during his studies at the Universities of Wisconsin and California, Byron has also performed as concertmaster with the University of Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra and the Kilbourn Orchestra at Eastman. Solo appearances include performances with the Carmel (IN) Symphony and the Great Falls Symphony. With the Taliesin Trio, he was the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts/Chamber Music America grant for a five month residency in Arkansas in 1995. He has participated in numerous summer festivals, including the Music Academy of the West, the Scotia Festival of Music and the Sunriver Music Festival, and as faculty member at the Kneisel Hall Amateur Chamber Music Workshop and the Luzerne Music Center. Before joining the Great Falls Symphony, Byron performed with the Santa Barbara Symphony, the Santa Barbara Grand Opera and the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra.
